Testament (ex Legacy) est un groupe de Thrash metal américain de Californie, formé dans la région de San Francisco en 1983. Le premier album de Testament, The Legacy, voit le jour en 1987. C'est un album court et technique dans la pure lignée du Thrash Metal classique, toujours considéré actuellement comme un classique du genre par les fans. La renommée de testament fut instantanée dans les cercles du Thrash et la formation fut comparée à Metallica, pionniers du genre. Probablement le groupe de Thrash le plus connu n'appartenant pas au Big Four of Thrash ( Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax ).

Megadeth est un groupe de heavy metal américain formé en 1983, en Californie par Dave Mustaine. Ils sont reconnus comme l'un des quatre groupes de thrash metal les plus influents (The Big Four of Thrash) avec Metallica, Anthrax, et Slayer. Le groupe se dissout en 2002 à cause d'une blessure nerveuse sévère au bras gauche de Mustaine, mais après beaucoup de rééducation pour ce dernier, le groupe a pu se reformer en 2004. On estime aujourd'hui que le groupe a vendu plus de 20 millions d'albums à travers le monde.

Formé a Birmingham, en Angleterre, en 1970, Judas Priest est l'une des figures emblématiques du heavy metal. Il s'agit, avec Black Sabbath, d'un des tout premiers groupes du genre, et encore aujourd'hui un des plus influents. Le premier album, Rocka Rolla, comporte des bases hard rock et de fortes réminiscences du rock progressif avec des morceaux longs et planants. Le groupe sera l'un des plus marquants des années 1980. La voix du chanteur Rob Halford (surnommé « The Metal God » par les fans), qui peut couvrir plusieurs octaves, associée au style heavy metal était une caractéristique principale. Le groupe propulsa à l'avant-plan le genre Arena Metal, caractérisé par des performances hautes en pyrotechnie dans les diverses arènes de hockey des grandes villes du monde. Judas Priest mettra également au monde le look heavy metal biker, avec son habillement de cuir et ses bracelets métalliques à clous. Mais avant tout, c'est son style musical caractérisé par l'utilisation de deux guitaristes solistes (comme Thin Lizzy ou Iron Maiden), au service de compositions raffinées, et la qualité des performances scéniques (plusieurs albums live en attestent, notamment Unleashed in the East) qui font de Judas Priest un des groupes de heavy metal les plus importants. En1991, Rob Halford quitte le groupe pour mener une carrière solo. En 2004, Judas Priest se retrouve en prévision d'une tournée mondiale. En 2008, Judas Priest change cependant de cap et lance un concept-album nommé "Nostradamus". Cet album est un opéra qui traîte les divinations du célèbre astrologue du même nom.
